Installation

Voiceavel is a native Mac app that turns your voice into text instantly. Hold a key, speak, release — text appears wherever your cursor is.

Prerequisites

Before installing Voiceavel, make sure you have:

  • macOS 13.0+ (Ventura) — Voiceavel is a native Mac app (Apple Silicon only)
  • Microphone access — macOS will prompt you on first launch

Download and Install

  1. Create a free account or sign in
  2. Download Voiceavel from your dashboard
  3. Open the .dmg and drag Voiceavel to your Applications folder
  4. Launch Voiceavel — macOS may ask you to confirm since it's distributed outside the App Store (right-click → Open → Open)

First Launch

When you first open Voiceavel, a setup wizard guides you through:

  1. License activation — Enter your license key (Pro users) or start a free trial
  2. Permissions — macOS will prompt you to grant:
    • Microphone access — to record your voice
    • Accessibility / Input Monitoring — to detect the keyboard shortcut and paste text
  3. How it works — A quick overview of hold, speak, release

These permissions are required for Voiceavel to work. Once granted, you're ready to go.

Automatic Updates

Voiceavel checks for new versions every 5 minutes while running. When an update is available, you'll see a notification with the option to download and install it automatically.

Data Storage

Voiceavel stores its data locally on your Mac at ~/.voiceavel/:

  • Configuration — Your settings and preferences
  • Dictation history — Your last 30 transcriptions
  • Log files — Diagnostic logs for troubleshooting

No audio or transcription data is sent to external servers unless you use a cloud provider (Cloud, OpenAI, or Groq), in which case audio is sent only for processing and is not stored.
