Command Mode

Command Mode lets you transform existing text with voice commands. Select text in any app, hold your hotkey, and speak an instruction — Voiceavel applies your command to the selected text.

How to Use

  1. Select text in any app (highlight it with your mouse or keyboard)
  2. Hold your hotkey (Right Command by default)
  3. Speak your command — for example, "make this more professional"
  4. Release the key — the selected text is replaced with the transformed version

If no text is selected, Voiceavel works as normal dictation. If text is selected, it automatically switches to Command Mode. No extra hotkey or toggle needed.

Example Commands

Here are some commands you can use:

  • "make this professional" — rewrites casual text in a formal tone
  • "make it shorter" — condenses the text while keeping the meaning
  • "translate to Spanish" — translates the selected text
  • "break into bullet points" — restructures a paragraph into a list
  • "fix the grammar" — corrects grammatical errors
  • "make this more casual" — loosens up formal language
  • "summarize this" — creates a shorter summary
  • "rewrite in past tense" — changes the tense

You can say anything — Voiceavel interprets your instruction and applies it intelligently.

Requirements

Command Mode requires a cloud provider:

  • Cloud (Voiceavel) — Works automatically with your Pro license. No API key needed.
  • OpenAI — Uses gpt-4o-mini via your API key.
  • Groq BYOK — Uses llama-3.1-8b-instant via your API key.

Command Mode is not available with the Local provider.
