Smart Cleanup

Smart Cleanup automatically removes filler words and handles mid-sentence voice corrections, so your transcribed text reads cleanly without manual editing.

Filler Word Removal

Voiceavel removes common filler words from your speech:

  • "So um I was thinking we should uh meet on Tuesday" → "I was thinking we should meet on Tuesday"
  • "The project is basically, you know, almost done" → "The project is almost done"
  • "I mean, it would be great to sort of get started" → "It would be great to get started"

Fillers removed include: um, uh, like, you know, I mean, sort of, kind of, basically, actually, right, so, well, and similar patterns.

Voice Corrections

Change your mind mid-sentence and Voiceavel keeps only your final intent:

  • "Let's meet tomorrow, no wait, Friday" → "Let's meet Friday"
  • "Send it to John, actually, send it to Sarah" → "Send it to Sarah"
  • "The deadline is March 10th, scratch that, March 15th" → "The deadline is March 15th"

Correction triggers include: "no wait", "actually", "scratch that", "I mean", "no", "sorry", and similar phrases.

How It Works

Smart Cleanup runs as a quick AI post-processing pass after transcription:

  • Cloud (Voiceavel) — Works automatically, no setup needed. Uses llama-3.1-8b-instant on Voiceavel's servers.
  • OpenAI / Groq BYOK — Uses gpt-4o-mini (OpenAI) or llama-3.1-8b-instant (Groq) via your API key. Both are fast and nearly free at roughly $0.00003 per dictation.
  • Local (no API key) — You still get basic regex-based filler removal (um, uh, like, you know). The voice correction feature requires a cloud provider.
